How to configure and install plugins

To ensure your plugins work, first, you need to get something called a YouTube API key. This is necessary, so your plugin can interact with YouTube. You will also need your username or your channel ID. You can get your channel ID from the URL of your channel:

For the sake of explanation, we’ll use Feeds for YouTube – plugin. Here are the steps:

  • Go to Plugins>Add New and find the desired plugin
  • Install and activate
  • Go to the plugin settings page to configure it

  • Enter your YouTube API key to unlock all feed types
  • Choose your feed type and customize it
  • Save the changes and copy the shortcode from the bottom of the setting page.
  • Paste the shortcode code directly into the post, page, or widget where you want to display the feed.

And that’s it – everything is ready to draw traffic to your website. You can additionally experiment with customization until you find the desired layout. The best part is, like most plugins, this doesn’t require any HTML, CSS, or JavaScript knowledge.

There is another method to embed a YouTube channel on your website. However, this method is not nearly as convenient as with plugins.

You can manually embed a YouTube player using the iframe tag (<iframe>). Or, you can embed the player by using IFrame Player API. This method, however, requires decent coding knowledge so you can specify player parameters appropriately. The point is, you will need to know how and where to copy code snippets. And be able to modify them so you can customize the player. The biggest downside of this method is that you have to embed each video separately – which can be pretty time-consuming. Or, you can embed a playlist. Anything more than that is exceptionally complicated for an average user. But if you must do it this way, make sure to find a professional so you don’t accidentally break your website.

It’s not a secret anymore that planning and scheduling YouTube videos in advance is essential for reaching success in the platform.

The reasons are straightforward: if you have a few backup videos ready ahead of time, you’ll rarely lose consistency in your upload schedule.

Furthermore, establishing a place to store all your ideas for future content will help you immensely. You’ll be able to make more efficient use of your time since you won’t have to come up with ideas in a rush before filming.

Lastly, we’re going to discuss content calendars and how to schedule content for each month.

Planning is essential for success. Ready to discover the main principles to plan, organize and schedule your videos to be ahead of the game?

Planning and Organizing YouTube Videos: Step by Step Process


To initiate the brainstorming session, open a new document or your notes app (pen and paper if you are the analogic type!) and begin to jot down some ideas.

If you struggle to come up with ideas, think of 3-5 main keywords that describe your channel. Then, think of video ideas for each one.

Remember to keep your eyes open to ideas to film video series!

You can also search popular videos or channels in your niche and see what they’re doing.

By studying your competitors you’ll know their weaknesses (as well as their strengths) and therefore, you’ll also figure out how to make better videos that rank higher!

Lastly, you’ll want to refine that giant list of ideas. Remove the ideas without potential, and also erase the repetitive or too similar ones.

#Bonus tip: It’s important for SEO purposes that you run your ideas somewhere (TubeBuddy is a great tool, Google Trends, and YouTube search suggestions are some free alternatives) and tweak keywords in the video ideas for better rankings. You’ll want, if possible, to target low competition, high search volume keywords!

After all that hard work, you have now a list with a decent number of future video ideas.

Believe me when I say that a list like this will help your channel (and your sanity!) tremendously.

Make sure to keep an eye on your videos’ comment section for suggestions that come straight up from your audience (that’ll also help you to know them better!)

Since your ideas have to be things that people actually look for or want to see, doing keyword research and knowing your audience are awesome tools to get the best chances of increasing views and attract eyeballs.

This list of ideas can become very big and confusing, so, extra points if you organize it in a spreadsheet in different categories!

Plan the upcoming month

Now that you’re equipped with a solid list of ideas, you can start to properly plan.

The way you choose to organize your content is totally personal, but I’ll explain to you a simple system that works like a charm.

I love tools like Asana or Trello to organize content for YouTube, because you can move and drag things around, reorganizing them with huge flexibility. I generally keep a few lists to organize the content creation process. These are the ones I use:

  • Video ideas
  • June (or whatever month)
  • Outline
  • Film
  • Edit
  • Completed

Once you create these lists, transfer your video ideas to the “video ideas” list. Drag some of these ideas to the month list, according to the videos you want to film in that specific month.

Next, you’ll drag those videos to the other lists as you complete each task. When you outline a video, you move it to the “outline” list; once you filmed it, you drag it on the “film” list, and so on.

You can replicate this process in different Word documents or even in a spreadsheet if not a great fan of the tools I mentioned.

This system allows you to see at a glance where you are in the creative process, what it’s left to do, and what your progress looks like.

You can plan from a few weeks to 6 months ahead, it depends on your style and flexibility needs!

Maintain a few videos ready to publish will ensure that you can still upload even if you’ve had a bad week and were not able to film. Work on that consistency!

Schedule your videos and create a content calendar

For this step, you can use a calendar tool like Google Calendar, or simply create a content calendar in a spreadsheet.

The idea is to schedule, firstly, the day you are going to publish each video idea that you have in the “month” list.

#Bonus tip: schedule the specific hour you want to upload as well. In YouTube Studio, you can see your audience’s analytics and find out the best days and hours to publish your content (based on their activity). Schedule to upload just before the peak time for maximum effect!

Use color coding at your advantage: make the film, edit and publish days a different color, to see at a glance which activities you have to do each week to reach your goals.

I recommend filming and editing in bulk to be more focused and productive. In one single day, you can film 2-3 videos, and then another day edit them before the upload date. Our brains respond so much better to a single activity, rather than the pressure of switching tasks way too frequently.

Outline and script your video

Did you know that outlines are vital to increasing your watch time and audience retention?

A good video structure will prevent you from simply turn on the camera and start talking. If you do that every time you film a video, you’re risking being repetitive, slow, and scattered.

Because let’s be real, people don’t have time to watch someone talk for 30 min about something that can be said in 8 min.

Having a script or a simple outline will make your filming and editing much more efficient.

If you are talking to the camera directly I don’t recommend a full script, because it will sound unnatural, like you’re reading.

But a simple outline to follow along (with the content divided into different headers and a few key points below each) will ensure you don’t lose track while talking, keeping it straight and to the point.


Follow these steps and your channel’s consistency will be on-point. You’ll also be less stressed about meeting your deadlines if you have a few videos ready to publish beforehand.

Foresight and planning skills are a big key to success in any business. Treat your channel seriously, and you will get the results that you are looking for!

Here we want (without being clickbait!) to make our title and thumbnail catchy and intriguing –they need to be enticing enough to be almost impossible to not click on them.

But how do we do that?

Well, it starts by knowing your viewers: if you know who’s watching you (a.k.a. your target audience) chances are that you’re going to know how to communicate with them in a way that’s appealing and persuasive.

A tip for the title: use [brackets] or (parentheses). Inside them, include a sneak peek of what the video contains, to make it super catchy.

For example: How to Build Backlinks to increase your SEO Authority [2021 Step-by-Step Linkbuilding Guide]

To go a step further, analyze the titles of other videos on the topic you want to upload. Then, figure out a way to craft a title that’s more appealing and eye-catching.

Pay attention to your tags

With the new changes YouTube made to the algorithm in 2021, tags aren’t a super important part of SEO anymore. However, it continues to be a valuable ranking factor to consider.

These changes to the algorithm were made due to people abusing tags and stuffing their videos with them. Something very similar happened in one of Google’s algorithm update, where they become less focused on keywords and more focused on user search intention.

It’s a great idea to learn from this and make sure you are using tags correctly, without overdoing it.

I recommend that the first 2-3 tags are your main target keyword and a few variations of it.

For example:

  • linkbuilding strategies
  • linkbuilding guide
  • linkbuilding tutorial

The next 2-3 tags will be synonyms of that main keyword:

  • backlinks
  • backlinks technique

The last 2-3 tags will be broad categories that your target topic falls within. For example:

  • SEO
  • search ranking
  • web traffic

And that’s all you need! Choose your tags smartly if you can, analyzing the value of each one with a keyword research tool (we’ll talk about this below).

YouTube suggests videos accordingly to what you tend to watch and/or what you’ve watched in the past, and accordingly to the video you’re watching at that moment.

So, if a person is watching a video on the same topic that yours, it is a good idea to heighten the chances that your video appears in that person’s suggested section.

But how do you do that?

Well, a good tip is to find a few very popular videos on your exact topic if possible, and assess the keywords they use.

You can use some of the same. YouTube will know from these keywords that your video can pair well to expand on the topic of the popular videos you found before and will suggest yours to that audience.

Thus, you’ll have more chances of your channel showing in the recommended section!

Optimize the video description

I’m tired of seeing videos with a single-word description. Those days are over.

You need to write a good description (150+ words at the very least) that sound like you were talking to another fellow human. So, no keyword stuffing, please!

Instead, use your main keyword in the first 2-3 sentences. Next, you can sprinkle these and other related keywords into the body of the text.

Make sure your description is engaging and fun to read as well.

Bonus tip: find keywords with high potential

You’ll love this tip.

First, head to the analytics on YouTube Studio and click traffic sources > search.

There, you will see the keywords that people use to find your videos. Chances are that you’re aware of some of these keywords because you were using them intentionally to rank your videos.

But if you dig deep enough, you’ll find keywords that you rank for accidentally.

Since these keywords already bring people to your channel, why don’t use them to optimize your videos or to create new content targeting these keywords, capitalizing on them?

Another great tip is that you invest in a tool like TubeBuddy. It has, among other functionalities, a keyword research tool.

TubeBuddy will tell you if a certain keyword is worth pursuing based on the competition and the search volume of that keyword. The ideal situation is to find keywords that have low competition and high search volume. It’s like finding a gold mine!

Work on performance to strengthen the channel

Engagement signals include likes, comments, shares, etc. Basically, represents how the people who watch your videos engage (or not) with your content.

There are a few things that you can do to boost them.

For example, make your videos easy to comment on. Instead of vaguely ask your audience at the end of each video to drop a comment, make them a close question or a little survey.

Like, “what of these strategies was your favorite? Tell us in a comment down below”.

People love to interact, but (generally) not to think. If they have to come up with a long well-thought answer, probably they don’t going to bother to comment. Makes sense, right?

Another great tip is to give people a reason to subscribe. A very popular way to doing this is telling something like “subscribe so you don’t miss on great future content like this!”
