How to get paid eating on youtube
YouTube, the ever growing video sharing website has all sorts of content uploaded to it. Everything ranging from Toy Reviews to Animations, Vlogs to Gaming and Recipes to Mukbangs, which are exactly what we’re going to be talking about today.
What is a Mukbang?
A Mukbang, also called “Meokbang” or an eating show is a broadcast where a host consumes various quantities of food while sometimes interacting with an audience. This is done both on Live Streams and on Uploaded videos. Mukbangs first originated in South Korea in 2010 but since then, it has become a global trend.
How much money can you make doing mukbang?
The amount of money that you can make doing Mukbangs varies depending on the way you broadcast your Mukbang. As mentioned above, Mukbangs are done both on Live Streams and on Uploaded videos. We’re gonna take a look at both.
If you decide to broadcast your Mukbang Live, YouTube has its own brilliant tipping service called “Superchat” where viewers donate a certain amount or above to have their message displayed on the stream and make their message more noticeable. Youtube also lets users buy animated chat stickers called “Super Stickers” and you get a cut off of each purchase.
YouTube also has a channel membership program. By clicking on the Join button next to the subscribe button, users can subscribe to your channel with monthly payments in exchange for various rewards such as exclusive stickers and badges in live chat, Member only posts and livestreams.
The amount that you can get from donations vary stream to stream, with a minimum $1 to trigger superchat which can be increased by the youtuber. And all YouTube channel memberships cost $4.99.On the other hand, uploaded videos are paid through AdSense, which is google’s ads program where YouTubers earn on the basis of the ads shown on their video. According to a variety of sources, YouTubers make anywhere between $0.01-$0.03 per view, with an average of $0.18 per ad shown. This comes to about $3 – $5 per 1000 views. However, the amount paid by YouTube through AdSense depends on a variety of factors such as:
- The number of views your video receives
- The number of ads shown
- The number of clicks an ad receives
- Video Length
- Ad quality
Views on Mukbang YouTube videos range anywhere from 100k to 10M, sometimes even going upto 15-20M views. This makes it about $300 to even $30,000 per video.
There’s also video sponsorships where certain brands sponsor a portion of your video where you talk about your video’s sponsor and their product.
But it takes a lot of time and consistent uploads to reach the criteria for YouTubes’s channel monetization program. But you can skip the waiting part and get right to earning on YouTube.
What do you need to get paid on YouTube?
So what do you actually need to start earning on YouTube? Youtube has a pretty strict monetization criteria called the “YouTube Partner Program”. To become a YouTube partner, you need:
- 1000 subscribers on your YouTube channel.
- Your videos should have generated 4000 watch time hours over the last 12 months.
- You need to comply with all YouTube’s policies and guidelines.
- An AdSense account set up.
Now there is a lot of confusion people have about the 4000 watch time hours, so let’s clear that up. The 4000 watch time hours is the amount of time people from across the globe have spent watching the videos you have on your channel in the past 12 months, starting from any date. Also the videos should be set to Public. Views on Unlisted videos do not count towards this goal.
Thankfully, Live Streams do count towards that goal.
One more thing: If you’re already accepted in the YouTube Partner Program but your channel fails to reach 4000 watch time hours, you won’t be removed from the YouTube Partner Program.
Once you’ve reached the monetization criteria, you can simply log into your YouTube Studio and click on Monetization. The Monetization tab keeps track of your progress towards reaching the program criteria and notify you once you’ve met the criteria. From there, you can apply to be accepted into the Youtube Partner Program which takes about a month where your channel is reviewed and you’re then accepted into the program.
Reaching the monetization criteria however, requires a lot of time, sometimes upto several years and a lot of regular uploads until you hit the 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch time hours mark. But there is an easier way which allows you to skip the waiting time and get straight to earning. Buy a Monetized Youtube Channel or, if you already have a YouTube Channel, Buy 4000 hours watch time + 1000 subscribers.
