Can you earn money on YouTube shorts?
YouTube shorts is YouTube’s take on the short, 30s – 1m video sharing concept first used by Vine and then popularized by TikTok.
This concept became so popular that almost every social media from Instagram, calling it Instagram Reels to YouTube shorts, people don’t seem to get enough of this short, bite sized content that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere.
And unlike traditional YouTube videos that are anywhere between 2 minutes to an hour long, Shorts is a great way to enjoy content while also being on a time crunch.
We all know that YouTube channels can be monetized and there’s a minimum requirement that you need to meet before you can start earning through advertisements on your YouTube videos.
BTW if you’re looking to monetize your channel, you can Buy genuine, high retention viewers and subscribers.
This raises a question-
Can you get paid doing YouTube shorts?
Short answer is YES!
You can earn money from creating YouTube shorts and even if your channel does not have normal YouTube videos and all your channel posts are shorts, you can still earn money off of doing YouTube Shorts.
This is all possible because of the YouTube Shorts fund which is very similar to TikTok Creator’s fund.
YouTube Shorts Fund
In its essence, YouTube shorts fund works in a very similar fashion to TikTok Creator fund where YouTube has allocated $100M to be distributed over the course of 2021-2022 and each month, YouTube will reach out to YouTube shorts creators and reward them with income which could range anywhere between $10-$1000.
But this leads us to another question-
Can you monetize YouTube shorts without the 1000 subscribers?
And the answer is YES! Unlike normal YouTube videos which require at least 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours in order to monetize your channel, YouTube shorts have no such criteria and you can start earning right away.
The only major defining criteria that will determine if you’ll get paid and how much you’ll get paid is the viewership and the engagement on your Short videos.
For now though, only creators from 10 countries are eligible to receive YouTube Shorts Funds payment: US, UK, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia and South Africa but YouTube says that they plan to extend/expand the eligibility to other countries soon.
“YouTube has evolved from being just a place where people upload and share videos,” Robert Kyncl, YouTube’s chief business officer, wrote in a blog post. “It’s now a destination where creators can find new audiences, connect with fans in different ways and build growing businesses.”
“To qualify for payouts from the Shorts Fund, channels must have uploaded at least one eligible Short in the last 180 days. They also must conform to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, copyright rules and monetization policies. In addition, creators must be 13 or older in the U.S. (or the “age of majority” in their country/region) and must accept terms of the program and link to an active Google AdSense account to receive the bonus payments.” YouTube says.
What to Upload as a Short?
The internet is full of content, from videos of cats to people hilariously falling off their bed, there’s everything on YouTube. And anything can be uploaded to YouTube shorts, given that it complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
Everything from gaming clips to recipes and people dancing to their favorite songs has been posted to YouTube shorts.
YouTube Shorts can also be used to drive people to watch their regular YouTube videos. This is achieved by showcasing or summarizing a full 10-20min YouTube video into a 30s-1m clip and uploading it as a Short with the option to view the complete video at the end.
Thus, sky’s the limit, upload whatever you want to your heart’s content and if your short videos get enough views and engagement, you just might receive a payment from YouTube Creator’s Fund!
That’s all for today, Stay tuned for more power packed content!
