How to Disable Instagram Shopping for your business
Instagram has recently rolled out its new feature called Instagram shop. Instagram Shop connects a business’ website to Instagram allowing users to shop for products directly through Instagram posts, saving time and allowing businesses to generate more sales through Instagram.
However, there’s been one new update to the app itself that is making people furious. It’s the addition of the “Shop” tab right next to the reels tab at the bottom of the screen.
It replaces the Notifications tab and no wonder people want the old notifications tab back simply because people have gotten used to clicking the notifications tab at the bottom and now all of a sudden, it opens Instagram shop instead.
How to delete Shop tab on Instagram
There’s no definitive way to delete the shop tab on Instagram because it is a feature built into the app after all.
And Instagram doesn’t have an option to turn it off either.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t workarounds. Here’s some ways you can remove the annoying Instagram Shop Tab, for now:
Downgrade the App
Since the shop tab has been rolling out country by country, it’s quite a new feature introduced in a pretty recent update for a lot of countries.
If so, you can downgrade your app to an older version which will completely remove the shop tab.
The only downside to this is Instagram versions become obsolete with time so it’s only for a while until the version of Instagram without the shop tab becomes obsolete and you have to upgrade your app to a newer version.
Change your Country / Region
Instagram Shop is a feature that has not yet rolled out to every country in the world.
There are select countries that got the feature a while ago, others are yet to receive the update and changing your region to a country where the feature isn’t available yet is a quick and easy way to remove the Shop tab.
To change your country on Instagram, simply uninstall the Instagram app, then use a VPN to connect to a country that does not have the Instagram Shop feature yet, like India for example and reinstall and log into the Instagram app with the VPN on.
Make sure to switch on the VPN every time you log into Instagram or else your Instagram will switch back to the country you’re in.
To switch your country without a VPN
- Open the Instagram app
- Go to your profile and click on “Edit Profile”
- Click on “Switch to a Professional account”
- Follow the on screen instructions to switch to a professional account. Make sure to pick a business account, not a creator account.
- After you’ve successfully switched to a business account, go back to your profile.
- Click on “Edit Profile”
- Scroll down and select “Contact Options”.
- Now Click on Business Address and add a valid address.
- You’ve successfully changed your region without a VPN.
Just like with Downgrading the app, this too will remove the shop tab temporarily until the Instagram Shop feature is rolled out to your selected country.
You can continue to change regions for as long as you want but since Instagram is working to add the Instagram Shop globally, once the feature is available on the global version, changing countries wouldn’t work.
Switch to a Personal Account
If you have a business or a creator account that you don’t mind switching over to a personal account, then you can simply switch to a personal account which will remove the tab because for some reason, even though personal accounts have the option to access Instagram shop, personal accounts have yet to get the Shop Tab replaces the notifications tab.
Remember that switching to a personal account takes away features like boosting posts, Analytics, and other business tools that are available to a professional account. So do this only if you don’t have any problem losing access to those features.
Here’s how to switch to a personal account.
- Open the Instagram App
- Head over to your profile
- Click on Edit Profile
- Scroll down and select “Switch to Personal Account”
- Follow the onscreen prompts to confirm the switch.
- You’re done. You’ve successfully switched to a personal account, and you should no longer have the Shop Tab.
One thing to remember is that all these workarounds are temporary as Instagram is slowly working to implement Instagram Shops in every single country and with newer versions of the app, some or maybe all of these workarounds might stop working.
