TikTok has boomed over the past couple years. Growing exponentially, TikTok has surpassed a lot of its competitors that came before it and it’s on its way to become the third most used social media platform worldwide by the end of 2022.
TikTok currently has 700+ million users and 100 million of them are active users, with millions of people using the app everyday.
All thanks to the short, 30 second – 1 minute video content that the app is based upon.
So much so that giants like YouTube and Facebook had to come up with similar features to compete with TikTok, namely YouTube Shorts and Facebook and Instagram Reels.
Overall, TikTok is an audio-visual experience and thus it encourages the use of music and sound in their videos.
How do you use copyrighted songs on TikTok?
TikTok allows users to use music in their video through a lot of different ways.
You can use the original audio or music from a video you upload to TikTok or you can browse through millions of songs that are available in TikTok’s music library.
There are two ways of using copyrighted songs on TikTok
1. Editing the copyrighted song into the video and then uploading it to TikTok.
By editing the copyrighted song into the video and uploading it to TikTok, you can upload any audio or music to TikTok. The uploaded audio or music shows up on TikTok as “Username – Original audio”. Uploading a copyrighted song as original audio is risky because even though most of the time people get away with using music as original audio, TikTok still follows copyright infringement rules and if you’re using the content to make money in any way, it breaks the copyright law and if someone reports your video for copyright, the video could be removed or worse, your account can get frozen or banned. If your account is frozen, we do have an article about frozen TikTok accounts and how to unfreeze them so make sure to check it out.
2. Using the music available in TikTok’s music library.
Even if the song is copyrighted, if it’s available in TikTok’s music library, you’re in luck because all the songs available in TikTok’s music library can be used to create videos on TikTok without breaking copyright. This is because when an artist lists their music on TikTok’s music library, they agree to the song being used on TikTok without any copyright infringement. This is the only way we’d recommend using copyrighted songs on your TikTok videos.
In case you don’t find music suitable for your content in TikTok’s music library, you can always use any Non-Copyright music from any Non-Copyright music label like NCS, Monstercat, ArgoFox, EDM Sauce and many more.
How to upload music on TikTok without copyright?
In case you do want to use copyrighted music on TikTok, here’s how to do it.
First of all, you’ll need an mp3 file of the song that you’re planning to use. There’s tons of ways to get an mp3 file of a song you want and a quick google search should do the trick.
Now that you have the audio, here’s how to upload it to TikTok:
1. Record the video through either TikTok’s app or any other way you prefer.
2. Save the video from TikTok to your phone if recorded through the TikTok app.
3. Using any editing software, edit the music into the video. We’d recommend using DaVinci Resolve as it’s free and has all the professional level editing features you might need.
4. Upload the video to TikTok by going into “Create” by tapping the plus icon in the bottom center of the screen and clicking on “Upload” and selecting the edited video.
5. And you’re done!
Note that we do not encourage uploading copyrighted music to TikTok and by following these steps, you are doing this at your own risk or you own the rights to the song you’re uploading to TikTok.
What we do encourage however, is growing your TikTok and getting more likes and followers. To grow your channel fast, Buy genuine TikTok fans and likes or Buy a TikTok account.
